Transmitter identi¯cation (TxID) tech- nique is used to diagnose the operating status of radio transmitters in DTV distributed transmission network. In this paper, a new kind of TxID method for DVB-H system is proposed. A steganography signal (e:g. watermark) is embedded in the DVB-H signal to form the composite sig- nal. By watermarking theory, we demonstrate the required signal level for watermarking signal to achieve a given bit error probability in di®erent circumstances. By selecting the reference pattern to generate the watermarking signal, Peak-to-average power ratio (PAPR) of the transmitted signal can be improved. Simulation results show that dis- tortion to the host signal can be ignored, and the receiver can distinguish the watermarking signal with low embed- ding strength even in wireless situation.
