  • Corresponding author: ZHENG Guoxin (corresponding author) received the Master degree in telecommunications engineering from Taiyuan University of Technology,China,in 1987.He was an associate professor and professor in Taiyuan University of Technology during 1999-2000.Since then,he is a professor in School of Communication and Information Engineering,Shanghai University,and from 2005 to present he was pointed as the deputy dean of that school.He worked as a research assistant at Microwave Laboratory,Chinese University of Hong Kong in 1995 and at EEE Division,Nanyang Technological University in 2005.His research interests are in the area of radio communication in defined space,focused on radio propagation,UWB and UNB communications and radio communications in city Metro systems.(Email:gxzheng@staff.shu.edu.cn)

  • This paper proposes and studies a novel M-ary chirp modulation scheme adopting quasi-orthogonal waveforms. The Symbol error probability (SEP) of M-ary modulation over Additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) channel is derived based on coherent detection, which is a function of modulation factor and waveform period. Moreover, the SEP is investigated over a channel limited by a nominal bandwidth. Both theoretical analysis and simulations prove that the SEP performance of the proposed 8-ary chirp modulation outperforms that of conventional 8 Phase shift keying (8PSK) with the same bandwidth efficiency.
