An Energy-efficient and reliability-ensured multipath routing (ERMR) algorithm is proposed for Wireless multimedia sensor networks (WMSNs). By considering the residual energy of nodes, the local link reliability and the distance between nodes, multiple node-disjoint routing paths are constructed from the source node to the sink node. And then several routing paths with high reliability are selected for transmitting multiple copies of a packet. As a result, the end-to-end reliability constraint of packet transmission is ensured. Simulation results show that the ERMR algorithm can effectively balance the energy consumption of nodes, and prolong the network lifetime while satisfying the end-to-end reliability constraint of packet transmission.
